What is AWS re/Start?

AWS re/Start is a skills development and work readiness program that prepares individuals for entry-level careers in the Cloud.

The program’s mission is to build local talent by providing AWS Cloud skills and job opportunities for the youth.

AWS re/Start and Praesignis are collaborating to provide support to learners in building career skills and helping them in the interview process to pursue entry-level roles that require AWS Cloud Practitioner and AWS Solutions Architect knowledge and skills.

Praesignis will support learners throughout the AWS re/Start program and help launch a career in the Cloud.

Both AWS re/Start and Praesignis are excited to collaborate to build an inclusive and diverse global pipeline of new Cloud talent by focusing on unemployed, underemployed, and transitioning populations and helping them launch entry-level Cloud careers.

 

AWS re/Start Foundational (Cloud Practitioner)

The AWS Cloud Practit0ioner certification is designed to validate an individual’s overall understanding of AWS cloud computing concepts and basic services.

Each group of learners, supported by professional mentors and accredited trainers, completes real-world scenario-based learning, hands-on labs, and coursework. AWS re/Start provides learners with resume and interview coaching to prepare for employer meetings and interviews to launch an entry-level Cloud career.

Praesignis will endeavor to create opportunities to connect learners with potential employers.

 

Learning Objectives

Individuals graduating from the AWS re/Start program are equipped with valuable cloud infrastructure and software skills, and are able to:

  • Provision and configure AWS Core Services and infrastructure components.
  • Monitor, measure and report on infrastructure load and performance.
  • Automate sysadmin tasks in an AWS core services environment by designing, coding and testing simple programs/scripts using Python and Bash.
  • Configure basic network components and assist in the resolution of network problems.
  • Assist with security configurations and monitor security events.
  • Carry out routine database maintenance and administration tasks.
  • Carry out routine allocation and configuration of storage with AWS S3 storage system.

Learner Profile

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You are a South African citizen.
  • You have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Women and youth are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • You are unemployed, underemployed, recently matriculated, or searching for a new career.
  • You have an interest in technology.
  • You can read, write and speak in English.
  • You can pass a basic academic assessment test.
  • You can attend classes full-time virtually for the entire duration of the 12-week course.
  • You have your own computer, data and internet connectivity.
  • You are ready to make an important commitment to building your future.



AWS re/Start Associate (Solutions Architect)

Start date of program: TBC

The AWS Solutions Architect certification is designed to demonstrate an individual’s expertise in designing and deploying scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

 

Learning Objectives

Individuals graduating from the AWS re/Start program are equipped with valuable cloud infrastructure and software skills, and are able to:

  • Understanding of AWS infrastructure: This includes knowledge of AWS global infrastructure, services, and how they are used to build and deploy applications.
  • Designing resilient architectures: Understanding of how to design and implement architectures that can withstand infrastructure or application failures, including strategies for backup and disaster recovery.
  • Selecting appropriate AWS services: Ability to select and implement the appropriate AWS services for a given workload or use case, and understand how to integrate those services together to build a scalable and fault-tolerant architecture.
  • Deployment and management of AWS services: Understanding of how to deploy, manage, and monitor AWS services, including scaling and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Security and compliance: Knowledge of AWS security best practices, including the use of AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), and the ability to design and implement secure and compliant architectures.
  • Cost optimization: Understanding of how to optimize AWS costs through the use of services like Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling, AWS Lambda, and Amazon Cloud Watch.
  • Overall, the AWS Solutions Architect certification focuses on providing individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to design and implement reliable and scalable architectures on AWS, while also ensuring security, compliance, and cost optimization.

Learner Profile

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You are a South African citizen.
  • You already have more than 12 months of Information Technology (IT) experience.
  • You are already studying towards AWS Cloud Practitioner, or already are certified as an AWS Cloud Practitioner.
  • You have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Women and youth are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • You are unemployed, underemployed, recently matriculated, or searching for a new career.
  • You have an interest in technology.
  • You can read, write and speak in English.
  • You can pass a basic academic assessment test.
  • You are able to dedicate time for self-study.
  • You are able to attend a half-hour check-in session through MS Teams every weekday morning for 8 weeks.
  • You have your own computer, data, and internet connectivity.
  • You are ready to make an essential commitment to building your future.
